Wilhelm Kaufmann, a watchmaker from Germany, was soon drawn to England, where he spent some time in London. As a dealer in Swiss movements, he served markets in the USA and Canada, India, China and Japan. His many travels enabled him to build up a worldwide network and contacts. This enabled him to export his own watches, "The WILKA Watch", to these countries from the very beginning.
A few years later, he moved his company headquarters from London to Geneva, which also boosted sales of his WILKA watches, as the quality seal of the place of origin was highly valued, especially in Asian countries.
This recognition of his watches, some of which were patented, lasted for decades and the watches, which were extremely attractive in terms of quality and design, helped the brand to achieve worldwide success, especially in the 1950s and 1960s and until the end of the 1970s.
